Project: A Tribute
Your assignment is to
create a tribute to an older person in your life.

Step One: Choose an older person you want to honor.
The person should, if possible, belong to the generation before your parents’.
The person should be real, not fictional.
The person should be alive.*
You should know this person personally.
Step Two: Find out when s/he was born.
Steps One and
Two must be completed by Monday, 6 May.
Step Three: We’ll go to the library for some research about the person’s growing-up years.
Step Four: Find out about this person’s life. (I’ll give you some sample questions to ask.)
Interview him or her, if possible—in person, by telephone, or e-mail.
Find out some interesting events about his or her childhood/growing up.
Find out some interesting events about his or her adulthood.
Find out about his or her current life as an older person.
Get his or her thoughts about what it’s like to grow older.
Step Five: Create your
tribute.
It will be a poster that can go on the wall.
It will include text amounting to 200-400 words.
It will include illustrations about that person’s life.
It will include illustrations about the history s/he has lived through.
Hand in your
tribute poster by Friday, 17 May.
Step Six: Oral
Presentation
Tell us about the person you are honoring.
Tell us why you chose this person.
Tell us interesting things you discovered doing the assignment.
Show us your poster, and tell us about what is on it.
Give a short conclusion.
Speak for about 1-2 minutes.
Oral presentations
will start Wednesday, 22 May in Homeroom.
Grading: Quality & Amount of Information—50 %
Presentation, Neatness, Looks—40%
Oral Presentation—10%
