“I Am” Poem

I am a carefree girl who loves horses

I wonder if my horse knows what I’m thinking

I hear the beating of hoofs on the sand

I see myself riding off into the sunset

I feel free when I’m riding

I pretend I’m riding while I sit in math class

I think we should appreciate animals more

I worry about the fate of the planet

I dream of the life I’ll have when I’m grown up

I hope my dreams come true

I understand I’ll have responsibilities in life

I say that happiness is the most important thing

I want to be riding now over green grass

I try to be a little bit better every day

I am a carefree girl who loves horses

                                    --Elly Tatum

I am a friendly guy who is doing his best

I wonder what the world will be like in 50 years

I hear silence in the middle of the night

I see people who don’t know what’s important

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulders

I pretend that I’m the ruler of the world

I think I’d rather not have the responsibility

I worry about war

I dream of traveling all over the world

I hope that we will find peace before it’s too late

I understand the frustration of being a student

I say that we are all equal, but not all the same

I want the adventure of life, before it’s too late

I try to help others, if I can

I am a friendly guy who is doing his best

                                    --Andy Moss

I try (something you make an effort for or about)

I am (repeat the first line of the poem)

Remember:

The title of your poem can be “I Am,”…but it can also be anything else you like.

Write your poem on a piece of unlined A-4 paper, any color.

Decorate the paper in a way that matches you and your personality.

Make sure your name is on the front of the paper—at the top or the bottom or somewhere.

Do NOT write the words “First Stanza”, “Second Stanza”, or “Third Stanza” in your poem!

This poem will be put on the bulletin board, and you’ll read all or part of it to the class.
