Class Handouts: We started by looking at the idea of prejudice, using the teleplay "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street," from your textbook. The questions and assignments for it we did in class. On The Holocaust:

• This Teachers' Guide to the Holocaust is full of links to photographs, documents, definitions, web sites, and even QuickTime movies, all evidence of a terrible history. Click on the word "Timeline" to see this part of the site in its entirety. Please click around on all the areas of this site! Spend some time on it, even if it does claim to be for teachers. The films, audiotapes, and photographs are worth the time and effort, especially if you have a high speed Internet connection and QuickTime on your computer. • The Simon Wiesenthal Center has a Multimedia Learning Center that is full of photos and documents. There's a section on "The Jews" that may be educational for you.


• Remember.org--A "cybrary" of The Holocaust. Tons of information, with lots of art and writing, including a student forum (currently containing an essay from a high school senior called, "There Are People At My School Who Hate Me, And I Have Probably Never Met Them")


• A collection of original documents and photographs is at the Holocaust History Project (a lot of them are in German, but they translate the content for you). Includes such things as government memos about "special vans" and "gassing devices".


• Aish HaTorah's Holocaust Site--Exhibits, stories, photos, etc., including audiotape of survivors speaking. Do you have RealAudio on your computer?


• The Missing Identity Website is dedicated to those who were children during the Holocaust and are now searching for information about their ancestors and family members.


• Holocaust Pictures Exhibition--Powerful images; do not view if you will be too affected by photos of a cruel and violent nature.


• Holocaust Heroes is "devoted to honoring the brave men and women who risked their lives to rescue and shelter Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazi reign of terror." It's very much a religious site concentrating on church groups, rather than individuals.


• The Jewish Virtual Library has a Holocaust Wing with many articles about subjects related to the Holocaust.


• The "Forgotten Holocaust" is a site with information about the non-Jewish victims of the Nazis--black, gypsy, homosexual, disabled, and other groups among the "other five million".

On Anne Frank:

• Start at the amazingly complete Anne Frank Internet Guide.


• Anne Frank Diary Reference Page--Lets you look at the Diary in many different ways, including calendar form.

• The Anne Frank-Fonds--Before his death, Otto Frank assigned his rights in Anne's story to this foundation, based in Switzerland.


• Anne Frank House--Take a trip to the Annex in the house where Anne and the others lived. There's lots of good information here.


• This advertisement for a technical illustration company contains a clickable floor plan of the Annex.


• Anne Frank: Lessons in Human Dignity--An excellent examination of issues in the diaries, in 35 "chapters," from the St. Petersburg Times, in Florida, in the US.
• The Holocaust Museum in the US presents an interesting look at Anne Frank the Writer, focusing on her development as a writer, with the ambition to become a great author, but whose story was left unfinished.
• Anne Frank was listed as one of Time magazine's 100 most important people of the 20th Century.
• The Auschwitz concentration camp's site has a special page devoted to Anne Frank, and to the now-famous Oscar Schindler. (The music that plays on the page is the theme from the film Schindler's List.)
