PLEASE NOTE: TallMania is going on vacation. While I make the transition to my new teaching situation in Lebanon, this site will remain "frozen." This page is no longer being updated. TallMania will re-appear in a redesigned form sometime in the next year.
Joel Tallman, 9 July 2003

Our overall theme for the year is EXPLORING and SELF-DISCOVERY.

What does that mean?
A look at our "inner journey"...

Oh, no! You found another secret link!

We'll read the classic quest adventure, The Hobbit, to look at how adventure can mean not only things happening outside us, but also ways that we change and grow within. We also read the novel Walk Two Moons, to show how family, friends, tragedy, and good fortune, all affect our "inner adventure" in real life. Then, we read Roald Dahl's autobiography, Boy, and examine our own lives and autobiographies so far, and what form our inner journey might take in the future.

From the menu below, you can select a particular reading,
or the Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop, or the research project,
and get class handouts, web links, and other materials.

NOTE: If I haven't handed out the paper in class yet, you'll be seeing last year's version on this web site.
